I believe that the best way of learning in the field of nursing is hands-on experience. One of the highlights of this trip was all of the invaluable practical experience that I got from patient interaction to shadowing nurses in the hospital.
While in Grenada, one of the experiences that enjoyed was going to the Grenadian Disabilities Association. During this time we got to interact with families and take their blood pressure, blood glucose, etc. The thing that I most enjoyed though was having unlimited time to talk to the families and really learn about their lives. Healthcare can be very rushed sometimes back in the United States and the slower pace that I noticed while in Grenada truly served the patients well and allowed me to build rapport.
